Kanye is back on top, as the top hip-hop CD on the Billboard 200, after being replaced last week by the Notorious soundtrack. Landing at the no. 4 position with 39,230 sold this week, 808s & Heartbreak now stands at 1,224,110 units scanned after nine weeks.
Five spots down is the Notorious OST, which features unreleased demos from the late Biggie Smalls as well as new tracks by Jay-Z and Jadakiss. In its second week, the compilation sold 28,990 units, bringing its overall sales figures to 72,020. I guess the SoundScan is concrete evidence that bootlegging has tarnished any prevailing hip hop legacy. No?
Moving on to no.17 and 18, Akon and T.I. respectively. The hookman’s third solo release Freedom managed to sell 21,470 discs this week, making his grand total numbers that much closer to gold status at 421,940. Tip’s Paper Trail sold 20,890 units this cycle, bringing his total to 1,617,710.Tip has reign once again.
Now lets take a look at Weezy. The rapper-turned-rocker, pushed 15,890 units off the shelves this cycle, hovering at no.26, making his total that much closer to triple platinum status. I guess Weezy is just not subject to fluctuation. Tha Carter III has now officially sold 2,949,420 copies after 33 weeks.
In case you didn't know, Wayne plans to hit us with an all rock project called Rebirth, set to hit stores on April 7th.
